Rocky's journal Wow, an update. Well, more of an announcement really. On short notice. Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 31) I turn 27. As tradition requires something to happen on this day, and it's a good excuse, I plan on going to see X-Men 3 at Astoria Kungsgatan at 21.15. If you'd like to come see it with me, give me a shout via sms, IRC, LysKOM, MSN or whatever way you know of contacting me. :) And on somewhat longer notice, between June 16 and 21 I'm on vacation in Amsterdam. I had originally planned to spend a couple of days with friends from my old World of Warcraft guild, but for various reasons the others couldn't show up. So I'll have a bunch of days to explore the netherlands and being social. If you have any fun plans/ideas, let me know. So currently I'm renting a DVD player/recorder from Thorn. This has two drawbacks. It's pretty expensive, and I don't use it much, especially the recording ability, which I've used a total of one time. And with the price of new DVD players dropping like flies, I figured I might as well go buy one instead. Picked up this little baby at Computer City: KISS DP-1500. And I'm impressed. Apart from being proven once more that the SCART connectors on my TV don't work, installation went smooth as silk. On the merchant's recommendation, I installed FreeKISS instead of the bundled PC-Link software on my PC. Connected power, network and A/V, and everything was up and running.. It plays basically anything you can throw at it, be it audio or video files.. And you can bring up the Shoutcast catalog and have it play web radio streams like Digitally Imported or any other of the thousands of Shoutcast streams. :) Best 990 SEK I've spent in a long time. Nicked from ![]() Which B-Movie Badass Are You? I'm not surprised. :) Current mood: This saturday, the job I've had for the last two weeks goes from being on a project basis to a permanent job. So I'm now working full time at SandrewMetronome AB as a "technical expert", which means mostly doing system and network administration. I'm happy. Being unemployed was getting boring.. Current mood: Current music: TISM - Bone Idol. I was at a job interview today. Follow-up interview to one I was at last week. Looks good so far, and I really like the people who've interviewed me.. None of the cliché interview questions, and we've had a nice relaxing talk with questions that are relevant to the job. I hope they find me suitable, it's about time I start working again.. After that I walked towards Rogue Trader, but on the way it started to rain heavily so I ducked into the PUB shopping centre.. I found myself aimlessly wandering for a bit while waiting for the rain to stop, and passed a multimedia store, where I found Invader Zim volume 1, 2 and 3 DVDs.. I felt I had earned some form of reward, so I bought volume 1 and 2.. Couldn't really afford all 3 now, but I'll get the last one eventually.. Current mood:
Current mood: And I survived. I worked as an official in the IT/telecomms group this year, setting up telephony and DSL to cover the festival area. Lots of cables. Meh. Next year I'll suggest that we borrow/rent some radio link hardware for the most remote locations like check-in and Apollo (The second largest scene, Vintergatan being the biggest). The festival began on Thursday with me having to take Friday I mostly lazed around, watched some random bands here and there all day, before it was time for the event of the day, VNV Nation playing on the big scene. It's the fourth time I see VNV live, but the first time I see them perform with material from Matter and Form. They sure know how to get their audience moving, and by the middle of the set the entire mass of people was bouncing to the music. After that I had planned to see X-Dream as well, but I was too tired and went to bed instead. Come saturday, more lazing until the bands I was interested in began playing at half past seven in the evening. First out was Bitpop who played Nintendo game music performed on a duet of acoustic guitars. I missed some classics, but they were a nice warmup on one of the tiny scenes. Right after that, Welle:Erdball played on Andromeda, a scene way too small for their fanbase. The set was great though, one of the best I watched during the festival. They threw a Commodore 64 into the audience, and in the middle of the set they also threw out 8 big red balloons that kept bouncing around over the crowd for a while. Much fun. After that I ate a bit and wandered the area until 01:00, when it was time for the height of the festival, Infected Mushroom. After three days of occasional rain the public area in front of Vintergatan was pretty much a big mudhole, but who cares about dirty shoes when you're bouncing and dancing along with thousands of others to their fantastic music? Also high up on the coolness scale was the two unknown girls who began dancing with me during the set. No idea who they were, and we dispersed after the set was over.. My poor feet are still aching, but it was worth it. I regret that I didn't watch more unknown bands though, and I should have spent more time in Orion (the dance/rave scene) than I did. Oh well, there'll be a festival next year too.. Current mood: Current music: The Warp Brothers - Feel like god. o/~ We're gonna drink and fight and drink and fight and drink and fight some more. When the drinking's done grab anyone and go and fight some more. So grab your friends and neighbours and punch them in the eye, and raise another glass to sing the Dublin lullaby! o/~ Note to self: Don't go drinking on an empty stomach. I'm not supposed to be this unsober after only two pints of beer. At least I was introduced to two new and not at all unpleasant kinds of beer.. A belgian beer called Maredsous, and a german Rauchbier (not sure if that's the brand or just a family of beers..) I'm off to bed now.. *hic* Current mood: Current music: Pogues - Dublin Lullaby. "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is bad. Really bad. You just won't believe how vastly, staggeringly, jaw-droppingly bad it is. I mean, you might think that The Phantom Menace was a hopelessly misguided attempt to reinvent a much-loved franchise by people who, though well-intentioned, completely failed to understand what made the original popular - but that's just peanuts to the Hitchhiker's movie. Listen.." Deprimerande. Och jag har fortfarande ont i dioderna. Sverok's yearly meeting made me sick. I had a bad fever yesterday (And still I went to Rogue Trader, stupid..), and today I've had this huge lump in my throat that just refuses to be coughed up. It's probably what's left of my vocal cords, since I've had no voice whatsoever today.. At best I managed to croak out a single word or two, and even that's been painful.. *pitiful* Current mood: Gothcon is March 25. That's 25 days from now. Until then I have to finish my army. That means everything built, painted and based. I also need to DTP a decently looking army list. Finish building the daemon prince - 2 days. Paint and base said daemon prince - 2 days. Paint and base 4 chosen - 2 days. Paint 7 flamers - 2 days. Paint 3 daemonettes - 1 day. Paint 8 furies - 2 days. Paint and base dreadnought - 2 days. 13 days, assuming I work on it every day.. Some marigin there at least. Time to get to work! Current mood: Kandra's Tau ran off the board. Again. :) Current mood: teasy. Spent most of the day at Rogue Trader, my wargaming club. Didn't play anything, but had a nice time chatting with some of the guys there. I also started building a new squad of chaos marines, a 6-man strong unit of elite "Chosen". These will operate close to enemy lines, using infiltration to get to a point from where they can use missile launchers to knock out enemy tanks and heavy infantry, and summon daemons and other chaotic beasts.. I chopped up a marine's legs and repositioned them to a crouching/hiding pose. After it's been painted, I'll add plenty of foilage and undergrowth to the base so he's crouching behind some bushes, to represent their infiltration skill.. ![]() ![]() Later today, I made myself a new icon, especially for posting comments to
Current mood: Bwahaha. It took a few tries, but now I found the perfect resolution...
Stolen from This is as close to a bandwagon as you'll ever see me. :) Stolen from Step 1: Get your playlist together, put it on random, and play. Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 15 songs that play. Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from. Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly. And no googling, you cheating bastard. ;) ( Music, maestro! ) Current mood: Current music: You're supposed to tell me this time.. Are all small UK companies this friendly, or have I just been lucky in the past? Half a year ago or so I bought a bunch of dice from em4 miniatures, among others a set of 5 solid steel D6. Very pretty and quite heavy. They're very satisfying to roll. I call them my sore loser dice, since if you get annoyed with you opponent you can always throw them at him.. Haven't happened yet tho. :) Anyway, only having 5 of those babies is not enough, so I decided to buy another set.. Unfortunately I couldn't find them in their catalog any more, so I mailed them and asked if I was just dumb or they had stopped selling them.. Doug, the guy who mailed me back, explained that they had stopped selling them because they sell another kind of metal D6 now (Which are very nice too, but doesn't match the ones I have..). However, he said he had looked around and found one kit in storage and asked if I wanted it.. Yay! Now that's customer service! Current mood: Current music: Seabound - Hooked. Snow :( Brr, cold and wet and icky and cold and... *hides under a blanket* Also, lazy as I am, I haven't gotten around to changing to winter tires on the car yet. The thought of doing it in the freezing cold garage is less than appealing, too. The local gas station wanted 300 SEK to change the tires (a 15 minute job if you have a proper car lift and a hydraulic wrench). Outrageous, so I'm looking for a DIY workshop in the area.. no luck yet though. Fortunately, since I have only two days to finish painting 25 WH40k miniatures, I have a perfect excuse not to leave the house. With any luck (and knowing the swedish weather..) the snow will all have melted away by saturday. Current mood: Jim Lehrer: Mr. Kerry, how do you propose to stop outsourcing of jobs and reduce our trade deficit? Kerry: The iron fist of government. Jim Lehrer: Mr. Bush? Bush: I like his answer, but I prefer to say, "free trade with rigorous enforcement of trade laws." That way people don’t know what I’m talking about. An honest debate between Bush and Kerry I just realized, the reason I seem not to post much is because I don't care about memes unless they're really good.. :) "Hi, I'm Mikael. I'm 25, and I.. I.. I'm a wargamer." Yeah, I play Warhammer 40k. Since we're all geek or nerds of some sort here, I'll blindly assume you know what it is. :) Anyway, yesterday was the release day in Sweden for the new, 4th edition of the 40k core rulebook. Big woot! The previous 3rd edition was released in 1998 and had been updated and corrected so many times that by now you almost carried around more weight in printouts and copies of errata, corrections, updates and FAQs than the rulebook itself (which is close to 300 pages).. I had pre-ordered the book and went to Games Workshop's store here in Stockholm to pick it up. I met up with a bunch of people from my gaming club who was sitting outside, reading their books and discussing the changes. Went inside and stood in line for a while, got my book and was given a lottery ticken and was informed that they were going to hold a lottery for everyone who had pre-ordered the rulebook. Yay. So I went outside and joined my gaming club friends until 1400, when the prizes would be drawn. The prizes being offered was a 4'x4' gaming table with plain, flat grassland on one side and a quite nicely modelled battlefield on the other, a large bag of assorted Dark Eldar models, and the book Imperial Armour vol.2. Anyway, the winners were drawn.. I had number 73. third place, number 14.. second place, number 61 (I think).. First place, number 90.. What? Noone with 90 around? Draw again.. First place, number 73. Yay! We were free to choose between the prizes, with first place getting to chose first, and so on. I chose the Imperial Armour book. It's a nice, heavy, 250+ page hardback compendium that contains tons of background information, pictures, drawings and rules for all Space Marines vehicles, as well as the vehicles used by the Inquisitional forces (Daemonhunters and witchhunters). A very nice prize indeed. Anyway, after that I went to our gaming club and discussed the new rules with those prescent, met up with Now, breakfast! Current mood: Current music: Tarmvred - Viva 6581 - 8. Saw this in Metro yesterday, and thought it was pretty funny.. Not to mention it's probably a big annoyance for Bush's campaign.. Billboard clocks Iraq war's cost Current mood: So, we went to see King Arthur today. Despite the tacky movie posters with the blantantly boobie-enhanced lady Guinevere, it was actually a pretty good movie, if you like lots of combat scenes. However, it has two big annoyances. Depending on your idea of spoilers, they might be, so I've placed them behind a cut. ( Spoilers... ) Current mood: Back from Arvika (well, came back last night actually, haven't been bothered to post until now). Best discovery: This Fish Needs A Bike - Soft synthpop, featuring Eddie Bengtsson (Page, Sista Mannen På Jorden). One of the few bands that I've become interested in just by hearing them live.. Usually I need to hear the studio versions of songs before I can really appreciate them live. Arvikafestivalen also marked the release of their first album, Between A&B, which I purchased after the concert. Highly recommended! I will most likely try to get a spot in the communications group next year as well. It was fun. Today I visited the dentist and had three holes in my teeth repaired. I discovered that having an anaesthetic in your lower jaw makes it really fun trying to taste food, since it also numbs your sense of taste.. In my case only half my tongue was numbed, so when I was eating cereal with milk I found that if I rolled the cold milk to the right (numbed) part of my mouth, it would feel like it was hot, but feel like it was cold in the left part of my mouth. The wonders of modern medicine.. Current music: This fish needs a bike - Stan. |
